Angelina Jolie is breaking the mold by proving that women can be independent, caring, and selfless at the same time. While being an Oscar-winning actress, she’s also a mom to six.
Her character as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider (2001) and Fox in Wanted (2008) are mostly adored because these characters showcase her fearless personality. Jolie, as a Fox, is one of the most badass characters whose defining trait isn’t her beauty but her combat ability.
Even though the character is widely appreciated, Jolie refused to do the movie’s sequel. There was a time when it seemed that the Wanted 2 producers would find a way for Angelina Jolie to return for the sequel. But Jolie has firmly denied her return through the Salt press tour that she can’t return to pulse-pounding action film because her character is dead.
Angelina Jolie Killed Her Own Character in Wanted
Wanted (2008)
Angelina Jolie‘s character’s fate in the movie changed which was originally not meant to die. The actress felt her assassin character should die in the script (due to the organization’s revelations), so she rewrote the script. Jolie once told MTV News:
“I actually changed the ending. I said, ‘If she was to find out she had killed people unjustly and was a part of something that wasn’t fair, then she should take her own life.’”
The decision to kill off Jolie’s character in the first film hindered the studio’s plan for a Wanted sequel. While they aimed to restore her character in the sequel, the actress wasn’t convinced ever since she had played a similar role in Salt. She once said at a press conference, reported by Coming Soon:
“They were [trying to bring me back] but I kind of feel like if I die in a movie, I should die actually.”
The Tomb Raider star felt her character is less complex than her role in Salt. She believed reprising the same character in another film wouldn’t be interesting for her, as it would involve repeating the same actions.
Timur Bekmambetov is Still Hoping for the Long-Awaited Sequel of Wanted
It’s more than fourteen years since the movie was released, but director Timur Bekmambetov is still hoping for the possibility of a sequel to Wanted. In 2018, he shared with SYFY Wire that he still has ideas for the follow-up to the film starring James McAvoy.
“The Fraternity now, if it exist[ed] today, I’m sure would be in [the] digital space.”
Bekmambetov continued:
“They can get messages, the names from some hackers …they will use blockchain to set up the assassinations. We live in a different world now. In [the years since] 2008, I am sure our world is not about guns or explosive materials anymore. It’s about the information, it’s about the big data, blockchain, dark web, cryptocurrency. It’s where we live now.”
The Wanted 2 project has been set aside for the foreseeable future. We never know when the sequel will start the filming process.
Viewers can stream Wanted by renting or purchasing on Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, Google Play, and iTunes.
