Sandra Bullock became one of the rom-com queens of Hollywood in the 1990s with her amazing projects. However, she expanded her portfolio by working in several genres establishing herself among the most talented actresses in the industry.

She continues to explore her craft by donning several hits in her portfolio. However, there was one rom-com film, which she initially turned down before accepting it. The Lost City was a critical hit but it was unable to impress the actress at first.

In June 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sandra Bullock opened up about turning down the role at first when Paramount approached her for The Lost City. Despite willingly saying adios to it, she couldn’t help but reach out to the company with a little twist.

She wanted something new that could entice the audience’s eyes which is why she convinced the studio to reverse the usual lead roles’ traits. It meant that the leading lady would be more heroic and bold meanwhile the main male character is going to show feminine sensitivities.

She shared,
“There weren’t any obstacles for the female character. And the male character we’ve seen before.”

While the concept was great, it needed a male character that would actually mold himself into the requirement which is when her friend, Channing Tatum entered into the picture.

Channing Tatum Agreed to Join The Project

The Lost City (2022).

Channing Tatum joined the project in late 2020 after Bullock added a twist to the film. She opened up about being glad to know that her long-time pal was willing to explore the male character with what she wanted in the film.

“I like that I’m not 25,” she shared. “And I love that there’s a man in it willing to be many aspects of himself that weren’t traditionally shown in films like this because they had to be the action hero. And Chan was so game. Let’s just do it.”
Bullock who also acts as a producer in the project shared how she needed a good partner as she runs Fortis Films.
“I just wanted a partner,” said Bullock. “I was so tired of doing everything myself. [I thought], ‘Where are the producers who are listed on the call sheet?’”
Eventually, her project turned out to be a big success which grossed over $190 million worldwide. With a star-studded cast including Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt, it is streaming on Paramount+.
