The movie Sin City featuring Jessica Alba and Bruce Willis in the central roles raised a lot of eyebrows when it first came out because of the significant age gap between the two leads and the relationship between the characters. It was a hit both critically and commercially and was followed by a sequel. Thus naturally people speculate it was awkward to shoot the more intimate scenes. But turns out it wasn’t awkward at all, at least not for Alba. The actress got into the depth of her character’s mind and put her in her shoes to get there.

In a 2005 interview with Radio Free, the actress revealed her process to deal with the character and helped people realize why she did not want to cut back on the intimate scenes with Willis.

Why Jessica Alba didn’t find the intimate scenes with Bruce Willis “creepy” in Sin City?

Back in 2005, when the movie Sin City came out, it became a hit, but also raised a couple of questions when it hinted at the romantic relationship between the leads Jessica Alba and Bruce Willis with significant age gaps whose characters also shared a father-daughter dynamic. The movie was adapted from Frank Miller’s novel bearing the same name. Therefore to defend her character from scrutiny, she explained her side in a 2005 interview with Radio Free. She said,
“Nancy doesn’t think of him as a father,—She thinks of him as her knight in shining armor. So I just came at it from that point. And she just sort of waited till she was old enough to really be in love with him and have that relationship completely. But I think she always looked at him as her soulmate from the beginning. She’s kind of an old soul from when she’s a little child, and so I didn’t think it was creepy at all.”

Thus, the actress realized after doing her homework, what the relationship meant to her character, Nancy in the movie and how it changed the traditional dynamic of the duo. But it is said, although it wasn’t awkward for Alba, Bruce Willis desperately tried to skip kissing his co-star.

Bruce Willis didn’t want to kiss Jessica Alba in Sin City

Jessica Alba has stated time and again how it wasn’t “creepy” at all for her to step into the shoes of Nancy, but such wasn’t the case when it was Bruce Willis’ turn. The actor had some valid concerns and was very nervous to share an on-screen romantic moment with his co-star. Alba was baffled by the star’s nervousness since the Die Hard star is known to be invincible, daring, and courageous courtesy of his previous roles. She revealed,
“It was easy for me. I’ve done a few kisses in my day,—We had this big romantic kiss, and it was supposed to be like this big, epic, beautiful kiss, like you’re anticipating this thing.”

She then added,
“We finally get to that scene and Bruce is sitting down and I’m going in for the kiss and he goes, ‘Maybe I get up and walk away and she runs after me.’ He says it to Robert when we were shooting it and Robert was like, ‘What?’ He got nervous – Bruce Willis,–It was really cute, ’cause it’s like this man, Die Hard and Moonlighting,”
Therefore, Bruce Willis had to overcome a lot to bring himself to share a passionate kiss with an actress much younger than him. Both of the actors are legendary performers which in turn made the movie a success. Sin City is now available on HBO Max to stream.
