In 2009, actor Kevin Costner, who is the lead singer of the band Kevin Costner & Modern West, was on tour with his bandmates. They were all set to hit the stage at the Big Valley Jamboree in Camrose, Alberta when a severe thunderstorm struck, causing the stage and stands on the main stage to collapse. The band members as well as the fans were trapped under the debris. A woman lost her life and 75 people got injured. Later, money was raised to support the two children of the woman.

In 2012, Costner talked about the incident in an interview with Toronto Star. The actor revealed that the tragedy made him realize “how precious life is.” He said,
“I came within a whisper of dying and two of my bandmates did too. The stage fell on me, it fell on them, and I was underneath it. It shows you how precious and how quickly life can be in the balance.”

Costner, who is 68 years old, formed the country rock band after his ex-wife, Christine Baumgartner, convinced him to follow his passion for music. In May 2023, Baumgartner, his wife of 18 years, filed for divorce based on “irreconcilable differences.

The movie was a massive success, winning seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Costner. Even today, Costner remains a prominent figure and his work as an actor, director, and musician has left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.
