Joe Rogan is known for being outspoken about a lot of stuff out there and he rarely shies away from expressing his opinion, no matter how risky it may be. The American podcaster has often taken digs at different celebrities for several reasons, and Tom Cruise has also been on his radar for some time. On one of his podcasts with comedian Nate Bargatze, the 55-year-old brought up an old and notorious interview of the Top Gun: Maverick star with Matt Lauer and called his words and ideas borderline tacky.
Joe Rogan’s take on drugs and anti-depressants
Joe Rogan feels very strongly on the topic of drug abuse and on that note, several doctors and pharmacists have been invited as guests on The Joe Rogan Experience to talk about health science advancements. The pros and cons of drug usage are discussed profusely by Rogan and his guests to sensitize his viewers to the issue.
Another celebrity who has been very open about the issues of drug abuse is Tom Cruise, although he doesn’t exercise as broad-minded an approach as the UFC commentator and has an anti stance against anti-depressants. This is because the Jack Reacher star is a staunch Scientologist, which does not approve of using anti-depressants.
Joe Rogan calls Tom Cruise wacky while partially agreeing with him about drug abuse
Joe Rogan and Tom Cruise
Rogan, in a recent episode of his podcast, shared his views on Cruise’s 2014 film, Edge of Tomorrow, and defined it as “bad-a*s”. He then commented on how the release of that project was a sensitive time for his image in the media and public. He shared,
“2014 was just a few years removed from him being wacky. When he did that Matt Lauer interview on the Today’s Show.”
He then went on to recall the Matt Lauer interview and how the Eyes Wide Shut star made some “wacky” comments back then.
Tom Cruise’s infamous interview with Matt Lauer
However, Rogan was not all critical of the Vanilla Sky star and did agree on some parts about the issues of drug abuse. Acknowledging the problem of drug abuse in society, he said of Cruise’s comment,
“Meanwhile he is right about a lot of it. He is definitely right about Adderall and Ridalin, that some people abuse it.”
But the agreement was only partial as the host added,
“But abuse, just because someone abuses it doesn’t mean, it doesn’t have uses.”
Therefore, even as he agreed with the 60-year-old, Rogan held his stance that people suffering from depression do benefit from its medications and that not everyone abuses the drugs. What is necessary is proper awareness regarding the same rather than complete ostracization of drug usage and mental health issues.
