Emilia Clarke’s character in Secret Invasion in the MCU has been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios after her role has been kept secret despite her appearance in the trailer. Speculations about her character ranged from being a Skrull or mutant from the comic books to an agent of SWORD named Abigail Brand. However, following the announcement of Secret Invasion’s release date, Marvel has finally unveiled the identity of the character played by the Game of Thrones actress in the upcoming Disney+ series.

Marvel has made a long-awaited announcement regarding Emilia Clarke’s significant character in the MCU

According to Vanity Fair, Marvel has revealed that Emilia Clarke will be portraying G’iah, Talos’ daughter, in Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion. G’iah was last seen as a child in the 2019 movie, Captain Marvel. In response to a question about Clarke’s character, Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury, referred to her as “the little Skrull girl has grown up” and reminisced about the scene in Captain Marvel where Talos reunited with his Skrull family:

“Remember when (Talos) was there with his wife and daughter? She’s the little Skrull girl grown up. She’s his daughter.”
According to the report, it appears that the relationship between Talos and G’iah is fraught with some problems that will play a role in the events of the upcoming Disney+ series.

The connections between Emilia Clarke and Captain Marvel

Although rumors had suggested that Emilia Clarke would be playing Abigail Brand and an official Tenor GIF of the Secret Invasion actress seemed to confirm it, it has now been confirmed that she will be playing the Skrull character G’iah. Clarke’s character may be both G’iah and Brand, with Brand being a false human persona. This is because Abigail Brand was present during the Skrulls’ attack on the SWORD headquarters in the Secret Invasion comic run. It remains to be seen, however, whether this theory holds.

It appears that G’iah and Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn, may be on opposing sides when the series begins. Additionally, G’iah’s storyline in the MCU seems to mirror that of Monica Rambeau, who was also young during the events of Captain Marvel(2019) and is now disillusioned with her aunt – Carol Danvers. It is interesting to note that G’iah and Monica met each other and played together at the end of the 2019 film, which could potentially lead to a Monica cameo in Secret Invasion or G’iah’s appearance in The Marvels(2023) later this year.

Emilia Clarke’s reaction to being cast in a Marvel project

During a recent interview with Comic Book, where she was promoting her new Image Comics miniseries, M.O.M.: Mother of Madness, Emilia Clarke spoke about her decision to join Secret Invasion. Clarke expressed her admiration for the work that Marvel Studios is currently doing and stated that being an official part of the franchise makes her feel cool. Read Clarke’s comments below:
“I just think what they’re doing right now is so exciting and so cool, and so on the cutting edge of it. I feel like they’re like the Apple of this world,” Clarke explained. “To be part of that family feels like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in the cool kid crowd. That’s so cool.’ Honestly speaking, the people that are making this are what pushed me over the line to really wanting to do it. I just think that everyone’s heart and heads are in the right place with this one.”

Emilia Clarke’s remark about Marvel Studios’ current plans being “cutting edge” is noteworthy given the precarious transition phase that the MCU is currently going through. With some of the beloved founding heroes of the franchise no longer in the picture, there is a risk associated with the franchise’s attempt to re-establish and re-invent itself to keep its fans engaged. However, the fact that high-profile actors like Clarke are joining the universe for projects like Secret Invasion is a positive sign that there are exciting ventures in store for the MCU and that it will continue to attract top-notch talent.
