Burt Reynolds has done some of the most extravagant movies and is unafraid to take charge as and when the time requires him to do so. Movies like Smokey and the Bandits, Deliverance, and many other movies have all highlighted just how great of an actor he really happens to be. There have been some cases here and there where he has gotten severely injured because of a stunt he tried to do during the shooting of a film.
From some of the easier stunts to the most difficult ones he could ever imagine, the actor has tried them all. However, none stung him in the back, quite literally, the way one particular stunt did. That experience taught him a lot of things, including not to take a great number of risks lightly.
Burt Reynolds Injured His Back While Making A Movie
Burt Reynolds has been famous for doing his own stunts. He does not shy away from taking risks. However, one particular stunt did not end the way he had intended to. Deliverance saw the actor doing the most difficult stunt of his entire life.

“[It was] going over the falls. It was pretty stupid. I thought it would just shoot me out, but it was like being shot out of a torpedo … I got into the canoe a fit 30-year-old and came back as a stumbling old nude man [because] the water ripped every bit of my clothing off.”
The stunt, which he was rather eager to do, ended up almost taking his life. The stunt almost managed to break his tailbone. Moreover, the pressure of the water was so intensely excruciating that all his clothes were ripped apart from his body, leaving him exposed and cold. Despite taking such a risk, the take seemed to capture the exact opposite of what they had intended. The shot looked more like a dummy was being thrown in the water when what they wanted was a more realistic appeal.
Burt Reynolds Despised His Role In Boogie Nights
Boogie Nights is one of the most loved films and can easily be regarded as a cult classic. Mark Wahlberg stood out splendidly and there was no reason for anyone to wonder why the movie would be bad. However, Burt Reynolds hated his own character in the film.

“I don’t like those people, I feel like they are due for a very hard time because they tried to do legitimate film and they’re never going to be able to. It’s sad, they were very sad people and they showed up a lot of times on set. It’s a one-way street, if you go down that road as an actor, you’re finished.”
According to him, he got very uncomfortable while filming the movie. The entire setting and aura of the environment he was in, including how the movie was essentially surrounding the p*rn industry made Reynolds more and more uncomfortable.
