An England fan has called for a petition to change the National Anthem ahead of the Euro 2024 final.

The Three Lions take on Spain on Sunday evening in the European Championship final in Berlin.

Gareth Southgate’s men booked their place in the showpiece event courtesy of a late Ollie Watkins goal which helped claim a 2-1 semi-final win over the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Spain have won all six of their games in the competition, including victories against Croatia, Italy, Germany and France.

Ahead of the game, which could see England win their first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup, musician Tom Grennan facetiously called for fans on X to start petitioning to change the national anthem.

Grennan’s song ‘’The Best A Man Can Get’, written for the latest Gillette advert, has gained a cult following on social media.

And Grennan joked that the song should replace God Save the King as the national anthem.

Elsewhere, Southgate, who has guided the Three Lions to the semi-finals or further in three of his four major tournaments, said it felt “normal” that England had reached the Euro final.

“There’s a different feel [than 2021]. We’re now in a different moment as a team, two tournaments on and a lot more big match experience,” Southgate told BBC Sport.

“I guess there was less of a celebration, perhaps less satisfaction at reaching a final.

“I wouldn’t say it becomes run of the mill but it’s a little bit more normal for us. That statement in itself is probably a bit ridiculous given our history.”

When asked if that meant winning was now essential, Southgate said: “Yeah, we needed to win the last one! We didn’t. What we do know is that in the end, how we’ll be viewed by others will be determined by the result on Sunday.”
