Flavor Flav’s first time meeting Miley Cyrus at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas in 2012 didn’t go too well, as he accidentally mistook her for Gwen Stefani.

The Public Enemy rap legend – turning 65 next month – couldn’t tell the difference between the pretty platinum-blonde singers despite Miley being 19 and Gwen being 42 at the time.

‘I was like, “Oh my God, I’m so stupid,”‘ Flav (born William Drayton Jr.) admitted on Just B with Bethenny Frankel last Thursday.

‘Smacked me in the face. She smacked me in the face. Miley Cyrus slapped Flavor Flav in the face, and I said, “I won’t let it happen again. We laughed it off.”‘

So when the hip-hop hype man bumped into the 31-year-old pop star backstage at the Grammy Awards on February 4, they hugged it out after he yelled her correct name.

‘You know it’s me! I made it!’ Miley exclaimed at LA’s Crypto.com Arena.

‘You don’t think I’m Gwen Stefani anymore. You used to call me Gwen every time I saw you.’

‘I know,’ Flav admitted, to which Cyrus assured him in response: ‘I love it.’

The pair then exchanged ‘I love you’s, before she gestured to Flav’s signature clock necklace and said: ‘You know what time it is!’

The Grammy Lifetime Achievement winner uploaded the encounter on Instagram with the cheeky caption referencing the Flowers hitmaker’s first Grammy win: ‘My girl Gwen Stefani… I mean MILEY CYRUS give my girl her Flowers!’

Flav will next voice a mystery character in Cinzia Angelini and David Feiss’ animated feature film Hitpig – hitting UK theaters April 19 – alongside Rainn Wilson, RuPaul, Anitta, Hannah Gadsby, and Lilly Singh.

The Used to Be Young singer has a cameo as groupie-turned-artist Tiffany Plastercaster in Focus Features’ road trip comedy Drive-Away Dolls, which hit US theaters last Friday and hits UK theaters March 15.

Ethan Coen’s solo feature directorial debut will also feature Margaret Qualley, Pedro Pascal, Matt Damon, Beanie Feldstein, Geraldine Viswanathan.
