At just 27 years old, Jennifer Lawrence has earned accolades in Hollywood that have taken decades for actors to achieve, including being one of the top-five highest paid actresses in the business.

Yet, her journey to success has been anything but conventional. In a new snippet from her upcoming 60 Minutes interview, Jennifer opens up about dropping out of middle school at 14 to pursue her acting dreams.

“I’ve struggled through school. I’ve never felt very smart. And when I’m reading the script and I feel like I know exactly what it would look like if somebody felt that way.”

“That was a whole part of my brain that I never even knew existed. Something that I could be confident in…and I didn’t want to let it go.”

Although finding it hard to explain to others, the Kentucky native described her connection with acting as an “overwhelming feeling of ‘I get this.'”
“This is what I was meant to do. To get people to try to understand that when you’re 14 years old wanting to drop out of school and do this – your parents are just like, ‘you’re out of your mind!'”

“I dropped out of middle school. I don’t technically have a GED or a diploma. I am self-educated.”

But if the Red Sparrow star had the chance to go back in time and do things differently, she wouldn’t. Jennifer doesn’t have any regrets about the choice she made.
“No, I really don’t have any regrets. I wanted to forge my own path. I found what I wanted to do and I didn’t want anything getting in the way of it.”

“Even friends, for many years, were not as important to me as my career – I mean from the age of 14.”

And who can blame her? Jennifer has consecutively put out a movie every year since 2010, sometimes multiple films in one year. She’s also racked up several awards including an Oscar, two Golden Globes, and two SAG awards.
