But with Holly Willoughby, Will Young and Myleene Klass among its devotees, the “G-Wagon” is ­pulling ahead as the must-have motor for the rich and famous.

But if you are famous enough they are free, as Mercedes gives them away to trend-setting stars to boost the brand’s cool reputation.

The motor was dreamt up 37 years ago after the Shah of Iran suggested Mercedes build a ­military-grade off-roader.
