Eagles left tackle Mailata, who played professional rugby growing up in Australia before coming to football, knows how it feels to battle against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. As the Eagles lost last year’s Super Bowl to Kansas City, Philadelphia’s Mailata wishes the defending champion the best, warns the 49ers, and praises Travis Kelce.

Jordan Mailata recently appeared in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports. In the interview, he promoted the upcoming Australian NRL Telstra Premiership season. This NRL season will be unique in many ways, as it will kick off on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium, the stadium hosting Super Bowl LVIII. This means this 2024 rugby season is gearing up to happen on America’s soil for the first time. Former South Sydney Rabbitohs’ player Mailata is also involved in the 2024 season-opening doubleheader. This NRL season will also be special because, this time, the players will grace the stage without any helmets, pads, or timeouts.
Besides informing about this upcoming thrilling season, Mailata also talked about the Chiefs’ performance, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce. He highlighted how KC was called underdogs in the middle of the 2023 season but how Patrick Mahomes and his Red Army, especially the talented running backs, pulled off some massive victories in the playoffs. Wishing “The Big Yeti” Kelce the best and praising his bond with quarterback Mahomes, Mailata said, “Oh man, my man Travis. Yeah, Big Yeti. I mean, Big Yeti, man. Good luck. I mean, you hear at some of the press conferences, you hear that Big Yeti and Mahomes do their own thing sometimes.”
Mailata warned the 49ers, “You know, like they let Travis run his own routes. You can’t defend against that. Those two (Mahomes and Kelce) are smart players, and they have a great relationship. So that’s gonna be important to try and make them a non-factor.“
Mailata emphasized that even to stop Mahomes, if the 49ers want to win, they will never have to count him out. Is that enough for the 49ers to win against the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII?

Four years ago, the 49ers faced the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, holding a 10-point lead. However, they lost 31-20 as both offense and defense struggled. But the time has changed now. A rematch in Las Vegas will happen in the upcoming Super Bowl LVIII. But this time, the 49ers have a new quarterback, Brock Purdy, who can make crucial plays.
Despite a less formidable defense than in 2019, they rely on a solid offense to clinch their first championship in 29 seasons. Purdy, often labeled “Mr. Irrelevant” by his haters, has become a significant player. He was MVP’s finalist this season, leading the NFL in yards per attempt (9.6) and passer rating (113). The offense of the 49ers is also formidable as it comprises top-tier playmakers, such as Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, and Deebo Samuel.

Because of all these game-changers, the 49ers might look to win against the Patrick Mahomes-guided Chiefs for the first time in NFL history.
