Liverpool are yet to make a senior signing this summer.
Fabrizio Romano has dropped some exciting transfer news for Liverpool supporters, confirming the club is in talks to sign a player who has already given the “green light” to joining the Reds.
Liverpool have made a quiet start to the summer transfer window and are the only ‘Big Six’ Premier League club yet to make a senior signing.
Several experienced players joined Jurgen Klopp in leaving Liverpool at the end of June, including Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip and Adrian – leaving new head coach Arne Slot with a squad in need of reinforcements.
So far there has been little sign of new arrivals at Anfield.
But that could be set to change soon, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano providing an update for Reds supporters.
He claims the Merseyside club are discussing a move for Newcastle and England star Anthony Gordon.
The 23-year-old winger enjoyed an excellent first full season with Newcastle in the 2023/24 campaign, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists in all competitions.
That form saw him make England’s Euro 2024 squad, but he made just one cameo appearance at the tournament as the Three Lions finished runners-up to Spain.
Romano says Liverpool-born Gordon has previously given the “green light” to return to Merseyside with the Reds, despite making 78 appearances for bitter rivals Everton prior to his move to Newcastle midway through the 2022/23 season.
“But Newcastle decided not to accept the proposals. It was just an exchange, just a conversation, not a formal bid. Liverpool wanted to make a proposal but it was not what Newcastle expected for Anthony Gordon.
“What I wanted to tell you tonight is that what I’m hearing is the interest from Liverpool in Anthony Gordon remains a strong interest, remains a concrete interest.
“He’s a player they really rate internally, a player they really like. The name of Anthony Gordon remains high on Liverpool’s list.”

Romano added: “What’s important to say is that in case they decide to do something in offensive positions, Anthony Gordon remains a player they really like. And so internally they are discussing the situation of Anthony Gordon because they keep believing he could be a fantastic player for the future of Liverpool.
“But again the problem could be in valuation with Newcastle because he’s a really important player for Newcastle. They don’t have any intention of making a normal price for Gordon – it has to be a big price for him in order to give a potential green light.
“But at the moment Newcastle really want to keep the player at the club, and so let’s see what Liverpool can do if Liverpool decide to do something on this deal.”
