Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark has quickly amassed a massive fanbase, and her entry into the WNBA has dramatically boosted both in-arena attendance and overall viewership. Fans have flocked to arenas in record numbers, not just at the Fever’s home games but across the league, eager to witness Clark’s skillset firsthand.
On Sunday, thousands of fans packed the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, as Clark’s Fever secured an impressive 100-93 victory against the Dallas Wings. It was yet another road game for Indiana that felt like a home game, with numerous fans filling the arena wearing Clark’s jersey.
Dallas’ star player Satou Sabally shared a candid reaction after noticing the significant number of Clark fans in Arlington. The German standout admitted feeling “annoyed” at that fact but recognized the Fever rookie’s significant impact on the growth of women’s basketball.
“Obviously, it’s annoying because there were way too many Caitlin fans in our arena.” Sabally told reporters at the post-game press conference. But kudos, it’s amazing to see so many people in women’s basketball jerseys. It’s amazing to see the excitement and the joy that comes out of that.
“Although, I feel like our Dallas fans could have done better, I had mixed feelings seeing all the Caitlin jerseys in our home, but it’s an amazing sign for women’s basketball. It’s just great how far we have come,” she added.
Fans witness another Caitlin Clark masterclass
Caitlin Clark did not disappoint the thousands of fans who came out to watch her play. The 22-year-old delivered another stellar performance, with 28 points and 12 assists, to lead the Fever above .500 at 17-16.
After the game, hundreds of fans gathered outside the College Park Center, eagerly waiting as Indiana’s team bus departed, hoping for another glimpse of the rising superstar.
Reflecting on the fame and attention that has come her way during her first professional season, the former Iowa standout shared her thoughts.
“There’s going to be great wins, there’s going to be hard losses…obviously, everybody wants to be there when everything’s great and amazing, but it’s the people who want to be there when things aren’t as good… I have a good circle,” said Clark.
