Tupac Shakur’s comments about Jada Pinkett Smith have resurfaced online in the wake of her “proposal” revelation.

During an appearance on the All The Smoke podcast on October 13, the 52-year-old actress claimed that the late rapper asked her to marry him while he was serving time at Rikers Island in 1995.

However, fans were not convinced, with TikTok user Jess in Miami (@jesstheprequeldoesmiami) doing a deep dive on why she believes Pinkett Smith’s proposal claim is false.

The clip received 2.8 million views, but now another fan video has gone viral that appears to support the closeness of their relationship.

“We’ll be old together,” he said. “She can have my one heart, my liver, my lungs, my kidneys, my blood, marrow, all of it.”

In the run-up to the release of her memoir Worthy on October 17, Pinkett Smith has been sharing snippets from the book, with the proposal reveal just one titbit.

However, the A Different World star has discussed her friendship with the music icon many times over the years. The pair became friends after both attending the Baltimore School of the Arts in the 1980s and stayed close until his death in 1996 at the age of 25.

During an appearance on the Jay Shetty Podcast on October 16, Pinkett Smith recalled the one time she and Shakur tested their feelings for one another.

“We were both really young,” she said. “There was no physical chemistry between us. I mean, literally.

“It was the same for Pac. When I dared him to kiss me, it was like ew for us both, right. It’s like, how can that be?”

Pinkett Smith stuck by Shakur after he was jailed for s-xual ass-ult in 1995. She said the proposal occurred during a visit to Rikers Island, where the rapper spent a few weeks in January 1995 before being moved to Clinton Correctional Facility.

However, TikTok user Jess believes “the math ain’t mathing,” with her viral video questioning the timeline and Pinkett Smith’s version of events.

“Tupac already had a girlfriend named Keisha,” Jess said in the clip.

“He proposed to Keisha—her words in a September 2011 interview—he proposed to Keisha before he even went into prison, they were already engaged. They got married in April.

“So you’re telling me that in the two to four week window that he was at Rikers, engaged to another woman, who had moved closer to the prison and was there almost every day, Tupac proposed to Jada?”

Jess also highlighted that the timing of the proposal closely aligns with when Pinkett Smith began dating future husband Will Smith, who she flew out to see in Los Angeles in February 1995 from her home in Maryland.

“Jada, when in all that time, did you visit Tupac in Rikers and get this f****** proposal?” Jess asked.

Newsweek has reached out to Pinkett Smith for comment via email.

Shakur was released from jail in October 1995, after Death Row Records mogul Suge Knight bailed him out. His marriage to Morris was annulled shortly afterward.

“Things were getting very different once he got bail, and I felt like I wasn’t needed anymore,” Morris told XXL Magazine in 2011.

“It wasn’t a good feeling. I just felt like, wow, okay, it was over. Like, Okay, I don’t need you anymore. I’m getting out. That’s it.”

Pinkett Smith tied the knot with Will Smith in 1997. The couple share two children—Jaden Smith, 25, and Willow Smith, 22. The actress is also stepmother to Trey Smith, 30, her husband’s son from his first marriage to Sheree Zampino.

During an interview with NBC News recently, Pinkett Smith confessed that she and the 55-year-old actor have been “living separate lives” since 2016. However, the pair are working to get their marriage back on track.
