In a new interview, Margot Robbie opened up about the scary experiences that occurred with some fans following her time in the spotlight playing Harley Quinn in the film, Suicide Squad. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Margot revealed one of the terrifying consequences of fame.

Margot shared that since the film was released she has faced stalkers and death t.h.r.e.a.ts, and was forced to employ a security team to protect her. She shared that she’s had to “learn along the way,” and has spent personal time, resources and finances on employing a team she can trust to protect her. She admitted in the interview that she has thought about whether others in the entertainment industry should warn actors of the “pitfalls of fame,” before someone signs on to a large project.

Suicide Squad, which is based on a story from DC Comics, came with an attentive and large fanbase, and Margot expressed how her experience with some fans was a “worst-case scenario of how big and scary it can get.”

She further explained that she’s realized acting is a “different kind of career.” Speaking more on the matter she said, “you need to always do a job that can financially support that lifestyle; you can’t just do indie films for the rest of your life because that film back there changed everything and now you have to be able to afford security. I just wish someone had explained a lot of those things to me early on. I wouldn’t have resented the position I found myself in because I would’ve known what I was getting myself into.”

It’s always important to remember that t.h.r.e.a.ts of any kind towards another person are not OK. It’s totally acceptable to be excited by your favorite film and to support your favorite celebrities, but it’s important to never cross a line and bring t.h.r.e.a.ts of violence or malicious intent into your support. Although celebrities are in the spotlight, they are humans, too, and fans should respect their right to safety and personal space.
