he star-studded cast of the ‘Barbie’ movie seemed to have contributed a lot to the film’s success. Post release, Greta Gerwig revealed all the potential Barbies and Kens (and Allans) we could have had but unfortunately missed out on. One of them was Dan Levy.

The actor would certainly have added a lot of charm to the movie. Here’s the real reason why Dan Levy turned down the role.

What Character Was Dan Levy Supposed To Play In ‘Barbie’?

Surely, Dan Levy would’ve made a kentastic Ken, but that was not the role he was approached to play. In an interview with USA Today the actor revealed that he was approached to play the character of Allan.

Levy said, “I was up for Allan. Love Michael Cera, so very happy for him. It was just also a wonderful audition process, too, because I didn’t know anything about the movie and I got (a little bit of) the script and had to figure out what exactly was going on.”

The actor then added, “You’ve seen the movie: Just getting two pages of that script, you look at it and think, “Yeah, I don’t know how to play this, but I guess I’ll make a choice and just go with that.”

Why Did Levy Turn Down The Role?

The Emmy-winning actor talked about the reason behind him turning down the role in an interview with PEOPLE. Levy said it was largely due to scheduling conflict.

The ‘Good Grief‘ actor said that he “Logistically could not make it work despite desperately trying to. So, yeah, I guess I was technically unavailable to do that”. He also added some admiration for Greta and her “wonderfully bizarre and magical aesthetic idea” for the film.

Gushing over her, he said, “I would have loved to play in her world. I think she is one of the great young auteurs of our time.”

He also added the regret he felt for turning down the role. “Does it haunt me when I sleep at night? Sometimes. It’s not like it isn’t like one of the biggest movies of all time. That was a tough, that was a tough day,” he recalled.
