Jo Koy admitted to his poor Golden Globes hosting after facing a huge backlash.

While Golden Globes winners were celebrating their achievements, comedian Jo Koy and the 81st Golden Globes host experienced a huge backlash over his performance. For many critics and fans, the comedian was far from being entertaining, and even a few celebrities rolled their eyes on the flat jokes.

Following the event, however, Koy was candid enough to admit the downsides to the performance. Regardless, the 81st Golden Globes experience was not what fans and critics expected. While taking the pain of the huge backlash on his shoulder, Koy admitted the flat and poor jokes have affected the show.

There is no denying that Jo Koy fell short of comic punchlines to arouse laughter in a packed audience. The comedian faced a huge backlash following his hosting of the event. Recently, speaking with GMA3: What You Need to Know, the comedian addressed the backlash and the opportunity to host the award show.

“I had fun. You know, it was a moment that I’ll always remember. It’s a tough room. It was a hard job, I’m not going to lie…I’d be lying if [I said] it doesn’t hurt. I hit a moment there where I was like, ‘Ah.’ Hosting is just a tough gig. Yes, I’m a stand-up comic but that hosting position it’s a different style. I kind of went in and did the writer’s thing. We had 10 days to write this monologue. It was a crash course. I feel bad, but I got to still say I loved what I did,” Koy said.

Of course, it was a tough gig to perform before the most prominent faces in Hollywood, but Koy has been performing art since 1994. His evolution as a stand-up comedian has prominence in his domain but not all things work out best and Koy admitted that he has faced the wrath of time as he just had 10 days to prepare for his monologue.

Amid most of the average jokes, Koy’s Taylor Swift joke got more attention among fans. The comedian was also keen on admitting the poorly delivered joke. “As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader,” Koy started the joke at the 81st Golden Globes. “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear,” he added. For context, Swift was seen in a recent football game as she was cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs, perhaps, because of her relationship with footballer Travis Kelce. Koy admitted that he felt bad for the Swift joke.

“I think it was when the Taylor [Swift] one was just a little flat…It was a weird joke, I guess. But it was more on the NFL…I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. So it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn’t come out that way,” the 52-year-old told GMA3.

Further, “I wanted to give a little bit more of me,” he said. “And I fell a little short. That’s all.” There is no altering the past , but will he ever host the Globes again? “I love the art of standup. It was cool the opportunity came to me, but hosting is just a beast. That’s about it,” he said of hosting the award show in the future with an ambiguous tone. But for the comedian/actor, it would be a chapter he would remember for the rest of his life.
