Swatting has become a fast-growing crime trend that targeted exes Cardi B and Offset in a mischievous scheme in 2023.

TMZ obtained body camera footage that captured the aftermath of the crime that took place at the former power couple’s estate in Sandy Springs, GA., in August 2023.

The rappers were not home at the time.

Authorities were alerted to the entertainer’s home after an unnamed person called the police and reported a shooting had occurred at a “famous rapper’s house.” The caller’s lie was fairly elaborate because they also explained that the “Bongos” rapper was possibly the victim.

In the nearly four-minute video, police officers arrive on the scene as they are met by the “Walk It Like I Talk It” rapper’s uncle, Derrick Cephus, who was housesitting for the couple at the time. Officers resolved that the call was fake when Offset –who was on speaker phone with Cephus– who assured them that he and his wife were in Los Angeles.

Following that, the officers provided Cephus with a report and then left.

According to CNN, swatting has been an issue since 2008 and became a federal crime in 2015. This prank involves calling the police with a false claim of criminal activity, as cited by Business Insider.

Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Diddy, and Chris Brown have been victims of this crime.

Swatting packs a steep penalty and can be punishable with time in prison.
