Man Utd have reached an agreement with the French club.
Manchester United have reached an agreement to sell Mason Greenwood in a proposed deal worth £26.7 million plus ‘a large share’ of any future sale.
Greenwood has not played for United since being suspended by the Premier League club in January 2022 after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.
All charges against the 22-year-old forward were dropped after key witnesses withdrew their involvement and “new material came to light”. The player denied all allegations.
Greenwood spent last season on loan at La Liga side Getafe, winning the club’s player of the season award after scoring 10 goals in 36 appearances.
A number of clubs in Europe have expressed an interest in signing Greenwood this summer, including Borussia Dortmund, Benfica, Juventus and Napoli.
But it appears Ligue 1 side Marseille are leading the race to sign the former England international.
In fact, Marseille are said to have reached an agreement with United to sign Greenwood, according to The Athletic.
The proposed move does depend on Greenwood’s approval, but Marseille are willing to spend £26.7 million [£23.3m fixed and £3.4m in add-ons] for the striker, as well as a large share of any future sale.
If a deal does materialise this summer, then the player would work under former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, who recently took over at the Stade Velodrome.
This week, De Zerbi said he will not prejudge Greenwood if he does join the French club.
“Mason is a world class player but we have not recruited him yet,” he said. “I don’t know what happened but I am not used to get involved in my players’ private life.
“But if he comes here, you have to know that I treat all my players like my sons. I can tell them off in private but I would never attack them in public.”

Greenwood held talks with United chiefs at the start of pre-season over his next club.
The Athletic suggest Greenwood entered United’s Carrington training base on Monday morning but did not train.
Instead, he was involved in ‘constructive dialogue’ with members of the club’s leadership team about signing for another team this summer.
