The 56-year-old actress received the Best Actress Oscar nomination for playing the role of Vivian Ward in 1990’s Pretty Woman. Ward agrees to become Richard Gere’s character, Edward Lewis’s escort for several social events.

Given that the duo attended several events together, Vivian also flaunted a variety of looks including a popular black and white outfit that she wore when introduced as a prostitute in the movie.

Recalling about her outfit, she told British Vogue,
“The funny thing about this dress is I think it was about $20. It was, I think, black and white and the costume designer changed it up to make it a little bit different and the boots were really uncomfortable.”
While the two-piece dress was intentionally made to stand out, Julia Roberts‘ character stood out more on-screen when she styled the vibrant red jacket on her waist.

However, the Wonder actress was conscious about her figure which seemingly became the reason why she donned the jacket.
“Well, I wore this outfit a lot. The jacket, I thought I had a big b-tt and that’s why I wore that jacket like that in the movie.”
However, this jacket too has an interesting story which was originally not a part of the wardrobe but rather got from the streets!

During the Pretty Woman star’s 25th anniversary celebration on The Today Show in 2015, film director Garry Marshall talked about Roberts’ look when her character was introduced.
Talking about the jacket, Marshall revealed that the scene required the prop but they were unable to find the one they liked on set. While filming on the Los Angeles street, he recalled,
“We didn’t have one that we liked so we shoot on the street [at] the Hollywood bar. [There] saw a kid I said, ‘See if you can buy her jacket’ and they said ‘We’ll give her free tickets to Disneyland.’ I said, ‘You know what, she wants money.”
It was some kids on set who offered the original jacket owner some money which they eventually purchased. It went on to become one of the popular looks of Roberts from the movie.

Whereas, the movie, which was originally intended to have a dark ending, became a successful project in the rom-com genre.

It went on to earn over $460 million at the worldwide box office. In addition to that, this movie helped the actress in establishing herself as a leading star in rom-com movies.
