NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar appeared in good spirits as he provided a positive update after his surgery on a broken hip.

Abdul-Jabbar posted pictures of himself smiling in his hospital bed, as well being taken out of an ambulance as he arrived at the hospital, in a post on Substack after he took a tumble at a music concert in LA on Friday.

The NBA legend also made sure to shoutout one of his favorite musical groups – The Manhattan Transfers, in his update along with a few jokes.

He also revealed that he was at the Disney Hall in Los Angeles on Friday to deliver a speech from US Vice President Kamala Harris.

‘I’d like to say I fell while trying to save a child from plunging over a balcony,’ wrote Abdul-Jabbar, who now faces a three-month road to recovery. ‘But I just tripped.

Abdul-Jabbar was taken to the hospital for the injury after falling at concert in Los Angeles
‘Hard for me to accept that a once world-class athlete just stumbled. But age is the great equalizer and humbles us all.’

He also took time to thank the first responders who aided him before writing: ‘All my best to you from my hospital bed. Me and my new hip will be dancing to your [The Manhattan Transfer’s] tunes again. Well, gently swaying.’

Abdul-Jabbar is a six-time NBA champion and six-time league MVP.

He held the NBA’s scoring record from 1984 until this year when LeBron James took over the top spot.

‘I’m wishing my Showtime teammate Kareem Abdul-Jabbar a speedy recovery after falling and breaking his hip! Praying for the Captain!’ said Magic Johnson on X.

Abdul-Jabbar is also a 19-time NBA All-Star and a 15-time All-NBA selection.

He also recently had his record as the Milwaukee Bucks broken by Giannis Antetokounmpo.
