In 2010, Eddie Murphy got the Razzie Award for Worst Actor of the Decade. As already told, he had also won three Razzies before that. After this, he decided to take a break from acting. He told podcast host Marc Maron the reason for his break on the WTF podcast:

“I’m sitting on the couch and I could sit on the couch and not get off it, but I don’t want the last bunch of s— they see me do [to be] bulls—,” he continued. “The plan was to go do Dolemite, Saturday Night Live, Coming 2 America and then do stand-up and see how I felt afterward.”

After nearly quitting acting for six years, Eddie Murphy made a return to Hollywood with the release of 2019’s Dolemite Is My Name. After the success of the film, the Hollywood star got ready to take full advantage of the momentum that his career was gaining during that period.

Then, the actor announced his comeback to stand-up comedy after many years. However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted his plans, and his scheduled 2020 comedy tour had to be postponed.

In 2020, it was announced that Eddie Murphy would reprise some of his iconic roles. He’s set to play Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop 4, and in 2021, he starred in Coming 2 America.
