Despite the obstacles, Pitt continues to excel in his craft, delivering powerful performances on screen and using his platform to raise awareness about addiction and the importance of seeking help. Here’s how he put his life back on track.

Why Did Brad Pitt Get Sick Of Himself

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Pitt was asked about depression and how the actor dealt with it. In response, Pitt revealed that towards the conclusion of the 1990s, he grew immensely weary of his own presence.

He sought refuge from the overwhelming nature of fame, indulging excessively in marijuana, transforming into a lethargic figure glued to the couch. He developed a genuine frustration towards his own demeanor.

“I got really sick of myself at the end of the 1990s: I was hiding out from the celebrity thing; I was smoking way too much dope; I was sitting on the couch and just turning into a doughnut; and I really got irritated with myself,” he said

He reached a point where he questioned the purpose behind his actions. Pitt engaged in a battle with his inner demons, grappling with somber contemplations.

Depression had been a part of his life in the past. Perhaps it was a struggle he faced in the previous decade. However, he viewed this period as an opportunity for self-discovery, a profound learning experience akin to a semester or a season of life.

“I got to: ‘What’s the point? I know better than this.’” Pitt said. “I used to deal with depression, but I don’t now, not this decade — maybe last decade. But that’s also figuring out who you are. I see it as a great education, as one of the seasons or a semester: ‘This semester I was majoring in depression.’”

Brad Pitt’s Casablanca Trip Changed His Life Perspective

During the mid-to-late 1990s, Pitt traveled to Casablanca, Morocco, exposing him to unprecedented poverty. It was an experience that shattered his preconceived notions, sparking discussions about inequality and healthcare.

Witnessing the unnecessary hardships endured by individuals in such circumstances, particularly the afflicted children suffering from preventable deformities, left an indelible mark on him.

“I saw poverty to an extreme I had never witnessed before, and we talked about inequality and health care, and I saw just what I felt was so unnecessary, that people should have to survive in these circumstances — and the children were inflicted with a lot of deformities, and things that could have been avoided had become their sentence. It stuck with me.”

This profound encounter lingered in his thoughts. Almost overnight, he reached a definitive moment of realization. He resolved that a change was imperative.
