Clark and the Fever have been eliminated from the WNBA playoffs.
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever were eliminated from the 2024 WNBA postseason in a first-round series sweep by the Connecticut Sun. Despite some stellar play from the rookie sensation, the Fever lost Game 1, 93-69, and Game 2, 87-81.
Clark’s arrival in the WNBA came with unprecedented fanfare. Seemingly every time the No. 1 pick took the court, she set a new TV viewership or attendance record.
Game 2 of the Fever’s first-round playoff series delivered an average of 2.54 million TV viewers. No playoff game has cracked 1 million average viewers since Indiana’s elimination from the postseason.
Despite these numbers, there are still those who argue against Clark’s WNBA impact.
In a since-deleted post, one X user claimed the WNBA doesn’t need Clark’s presence because of all the other stars the league has to offer. In doing so, the X user listed several WNBA superstars.
One incorrect name — “Brianna Ionescu” — killed any credibility.
“Caitlin Clark got sent home and viewership has not dropped AT ALL. The WNBA is not hurting for stars,” the user wrote. “A’ja Wilson. DeWanna Bonner. Breanna Stewart. Kelsi Plum. Brianna Ionescu. Dijonai Carrington. Alyssa Thomas. Marina Mabrey. Napheesa Collier. Kayla McBride. The media lied to ya’ll.”
Indiana Fever legend Tamika Catchings responded to this since-deleted post with a series of laughing emojis and a shrug.
Catchings was overwhelmingly supportive of Clark and the Fever throughout their 2024 WNBA campaign. After they were eliminated from the postseason last week, the former league MVP sent a message to her former team.
“Super proud of our @IndianaFever team!!! Fought a lot of battles this year and I guarantee that WE WILL BE BACK!! Love my ladies!!! Now that we know what it feels like, we’ll know what it takes to keep on playing!!! #PlayoffTime #FeverBeliever 4 LIFE!!!” Catchings wrote.
Catchings will no doubt be cheering Clark and the Fever when they return to the court for the 2025 WNBA season.
