Prime Minister Keir Starmer gives huge update on Bank Holiday decision if England win Euro 2024 just before kick-off

Gary Neville asked Prime Minister Keir Starmer whether he’d grant an extra Bank Holiday if England win Euro 2024.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has given a huge update on granting a Bank Holiday if England win Euro 2024 just before the final.

It’s just over an hour until England meet Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

The Three Lions are aiming to win their first European Championship title and their first major international trophy since 1966 when they won the World Cup on home soil.

A question surrounding tonight’s clash is whether England will receive a Bank Holiday should Gareth Southgate’s side prevail in Berlin.

Ahead of kick-off, Gary Neville interviewed Starmer pitchside for ITV and asked about a potential extra Bank Holiday for tomorrow.

But Starmer refused to commit to permitting an extra Bank Holiday but insists the country need to mark the triumph if England win the Euros title.

“Well, I don’t know about that. Let’s get through the next few hours, let’s get their hands on that trophy,” he said. “We need to mark it in some way, but we’ll have to see what that is. An appropriate way.”

Starmer was also quizzed by Neville whether he can relate to Southgate to which he replied: “I can totally relate to [Southgate]. When I started as Labour leader, people said; ‘You’re not going to get it over the line, you’re not going quick enough’, ‘You won’t turn it around in five years to get a Labour government’.

“Gareth obviously starts this, people saying it’s not good enough, I always said from the get go that this is a fantastic squad and he’s a great manager, who’ll get the best out of them.

“I’m really pleased they’ve got this far. They should be really pleased. They should be so proud, we’re all really proud, the whole country is behind them.”
