Randy Orton has revealed actually having time to see your family is finally important in WWE thanks to The Game.
Being a WWE Superstar is a reality most of us will only ever dream of. Wrestling matches the world over for millions of fans, and making a decent living in the process. It comes at a price though, and I’m not just talking about the toll it takes on pro wrestlers’ health and bodies.
WWE Superstars are also expected to make other sacrifices. Traveling the world pretty much non-stop, they don’t get to see their families nearly as much as they’d like and miss out on milestones in the process. Weddings, birthdays, even funerals.
Triple H Wants You To Have Time Off
Almost any WWE employee will have a story about a big event they’ve had to miss because they had to grab a flight, or they were slated to wrestle a match thousands of miles away. That’s just how it goes, although according to Randy Orton, times are changing.
Speaking with Logan Paul on Impaulsive, The Viper revealed there is a much bigger onus on wrestlers spending time at home with their families than ever before now Triple H is in charge (H/T to WrestlingNews.co for the transcription).
Back in the day you were missing birthdays, you were missing anniversaries and you were missing holidays. There was really no either way about it [and] you weren’t going to ask for [time] off…
Now, he’ll make sure that you can get home for the birth of your baby or he’ll make sure that you can get home for that birthday because he understands now how important that is. I think company-wide that’s been a change for the better.
The Game’s Health Scare
Having been a WWE Superstar for more than 20 years, Orton will know a thing or two about missing important events and dates back home, especially with kids of his own. The 14-time champion notes The Game’s health scare likely played a role in the shift in WWE.
With a wife and three daughters at home, Triple H not only realized he needed to spend more time at home – not knowing what might happen from one day to the next – but everybody should. It was never a secret that asking for time off was a no-no when Vince McMahon was in charge, but learning Triple H has changed that since becoming head of creative is great to know.
The fear that your spot will be gone when you get back should you need time off for a birthday, a honeymoon, or anything just shouldn’t be a factor. Triple H’s way of doing things might also mean fewer wrestlers will continue on when hurt and actually take the time they need to recover.
