The two muscular actors have been rumored to be in disagreement for more than half a year, since filming “Fast & Furious 8”.

In the Fast & Furious film series , The Rock’s character agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) appears from episode five Fast Five (2011). At first, he intended to capture Dominic Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) group, but later became their ally. This character’s strength and humor bring freshness to the speed series.

On screen, The Rock has been Vin Diesel’s close friend throughout the last four episodes. However, in real life, the two actors are said to have been at odds with each other for more than half a year.

It all started with a message on The Rock ‘s  Instagram page in August 2016. The actor criticized the working attitude of a fellow actor whom he called a “shy guy”. The Rock said: “Some male co-stars behave professionally and are worthy of men, while others do not. They are too cowardly to change the situation. Next April, you will see me not acting in a few scenes and my blood will boil.”

TMZ ‘s source identified the person in question as Vin Diesel – the main star of the series. According to this site, the actor was criticized for often arriving up to 30 minutes late and for having an arrogant attitude on set. On August 11, 2016, after finishing filming, The Rock posted a  thank you message to everyone  on Instagram , but Diesel was not named.

In September 2016, actress Michelle Rodgriguez confirmed the disagreement between the two actors in People magazine . She said: “Those who know these two people well should stand aside and let them deal with it themselves.” At this time, the media named the conflict after the word The Rock used – “Shy guy”.

In April 2017, two actors commented on the incident while promoting the movie. In the Los Angeles Times , The Rock said: “This discord is good for the crew. I clearly understand what I said. This information only makes the audience more interested in the movie.”

Meanwhile, Vin Diesel shared on  USA Today :  “I think the story has been exaggerated. I don’t think he meant to be aggressive. It’s not easy to be a leader. But we are both leaders . ” On the red carpet, the actor also repeatedly affirmed that he and The Rock are still friends.

However, many sources show that there is still discord between the two actors. During movie promotions, The Rock and Diesel rarely appear together. When the movie was released, Vulture commented that there were too few common scenes between the two.

The first communication scene between the two characters is over the phone. When the group goes to steal weapons, the movie skips the familiar scene when they discuss the plan (if this scene existed, The Rock and Diesel would have to sit close together). Then, the way the scene is cut makes it so that the two actors rarely appear in one frame. Instead, The Rock is often paired with action star Jason Statham.

In addition, The Wrap said that Vin Diesel – as producer of The Fate of the Furious – asked to cut a scene with The Rock and Jason Statham. This decision was made close to the release date, forcing theaters to resend previously provided copies of the film.

According to  The Wrap , The Rock and Statham act together so much that they could start their own spin-off project. The cut excerpt was made by producer Neal Moritz without consulting Diesel. When production director Samantha Vincent – Diesel’s sister – informed him, the 49-year-old actor got angry and asked Universal to remove this scene.

Currently, the conflict between the two actors does not seem to have affected film sales. T he Fate of the Furious just became the movie with the biggest opening in cinema history. However, the future of the series is still open as the two stars will have to face each other for at least two more episodes (the series is expected to end in episode 10). Previously, The Rock repeatedly expressed his intention to make his own film about his character, but it is unclear whether this project will be “green-lit” after the disagreement.

Both Vin Diesel and The Rock are big stars in Hollywood. According to Forbes magazine , The Rock was the highest paid actor in 2016 with 64 million USD, while Diesel ranked eighth with 35 million USD.
