The 77-year-old actress played Magdalene “Queenie” Shaw in the films “The Fate of the Furious,” “Hobbs & Shaw” and “Fast & Furious 9.”

On February 26,  The Hollywood Reporter  published an interview with veteran actress Helen Mirren on the occasion of her transformation into Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir in the biographical film  Golda . The 77-year-old actress shared about her fight against sexism and gave suggestions to young actors. She also revealed that she had to beg Vin Diesel to have a role in the  Fast & Furious series .

The story began in 2015, when Helen Mirren shared that she would be willing to appear in a  Fast & Furious movie . A few months later, Vin Diesel also expressed his willingness to “admit” her to the speed family. Finally, the two had a chance to meet at a party. Helen Mirren did not miss the opportunity and immediately convinced her juniors to give her a role.

She shared: “I didn’t suggest, I begged! We attended an event together and I was introduced to Vin. I had the guts to say ‘God, I really want to act in your movie! Please give me a role’. And then Vin, with his deep, heavenly voice, replied ‘Let me research’. And he complied with me.”

“Vin found a small, but martial, role for me. Couldn’t be more wonderful. I’ve never done anything like that before – being in a very, very big movie. And, with a bit of conceit, I love driving and would love to drive a fast supercar myself,” Hellen Mirren continued.

Initially, Helen Mirren expressed her desire to play a villain in the  Fast & Furious series . However, her character Magdalene “Queenie” Shaw is not a villain on screen even though she often breaks the law. She is one of the allies of male protagonist Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), as well as the mother of three brothers Deckard (Jason Statham), Hattie (Vanessa Kirby) and Owen (Luke Evans).

Queenie first appeared in  The Fate of the Furious  (2017), returned in the spin-off  Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw  (2019) and most recently  Fast & Furious 9 . In  Fast & Furious 9 , Helen Mirren’s character impressed with her skillful racing performance on the streets of London, successfully rescuing Toretto from pursuit by a hair’s breadth.
