That is not an easy person living in that house with him, apparently,” the actor responded. The second episode of Secret Invasion briefly introduces a Skrull, Varra, in a flashback scene.

It is revealed in the latest episode that Varra, who is named Priscilla in human form, is married to Fury. The pair have a decades-long history, Varra being a part of Fury’s extensive network of connections.

Secret Invasion has established Fury as possessing a litany of on-screen connections. Still, the one with Varra is given even more depth because of Jackson’s off-screen friendship with the actor that portrays the character. Charlayne Woodard plays Varra, and she has cultivated a decades-long friendship with Jackson, “Charlayne and I have known each other for quite a long time from our New York theater days when she was a hoofer and dancer, singer, and doing all this other stuff,” explained Jackson, “We’ve known each other for quite a long time. She’s an amazing actor.

When they cast her, I was very happy to know she is very good friends with my wife, so she didn’t have to worry about the whole set romance thing,” he added in good humor.

Secret Invasion’s Nick Fury ‘Skrullmance’

Jackson is ecstatic that Secret Invasion will finally feature romance involving his character, laid bare for audiences to see, “It’s good that the audience knows that Fury has someone and he’s not alone in the fight or the world, and it could be even better that they know that someone is a Skrull,” Jackson said.

The latest episode reveals that the marriage, much like Fury’s relationship with the Skrulls, is generally strained due to perceived abandonment. After the blip and upon his return, Fury departs to the S.A.B.E.R station, leaving a void that has fuelled the Skrulls’ contempt.

Jackson, regardless of any distrust they may feel toward each other, insists Fury still loves Varra, “Everybody loves something or someone, hopefully, or someone loves them that gives them an opportunity to let their defenses down, to open themselves up to the pain of loss, or the joy of belonging, and she’s that person even though it’s a tortured kind of romance,” he elaborated, “Nick Fury loves someone, and he does suffer a loneliness when she’s not there,” he concluded.

Secret Invasion is currently streaming on Disney+.
