Speaking to Sevilla fans on the opening day, midfielder Sergio Ramos was determined to conquer titles with the team.
“Before I die, I want to win something with the number one team in my heart, Sevilla,” Ramos said on September 6 when making his debut at Sanchez Pijzuan Stadium. “Hopefully, I can devote myself to achieving my goal. It will be something unforgettable.”
According to Marca, more than 20,000 Sevilla fans attended this ceremony, happily and continuously singing Ramos’ name, making the veteran midfielder so emotional that he cried. He felt sad for a moment before thanking the fans for their love as well as the trust and support from President Jose Castro Carmona.

When asked about the possibility of taking a penalty kick in the last minute and the score is 0-0, if he meets Real Madrid again, Ramos replied: “It depends on the coach and the person assigned to take the penalty kick. Of course, I I like challenges and penalties. I will have to talk to Ivan Rakitic. But my team is Sevilla. If that situation arises, I will do it with great joy.”
Ramos grew up in the Sevilla training academy, but only played one season in 2004-2005 for the first team. After moving to Real Madrid in 2005, he played 671 matches, scored 101 goals, won five La Liga, two King’s Cups and four Champions Leagues. Ramos went to France to play for PSG from July 2021 to June 2023, playing 58 matches, scoring six goals, winning two Ligue 1 and one French Super Cup.
Ramos became a free player after PSG did not renew his contract. Before returning to Sevilla, the 37-year-old midfielder rejected a number of attractive offers from Man Utd and Saudi Arabia.
In the Spanish national team, Ramos is also a legend. He holds the record of playing 180 times for the team, scoring 23 goals, winning Euro 2008, 2012 and World Cup 2010. Ramos plays center back, but is one of the 10 players with the most goals for the team.
Sevilla is the “king” of the UEFA Cup/Europa League, with seven championship titles. Sevilla’s last coronation was last season, when they beat Roma in the final penalty shootout. However, in the domestic arena, they have only won one La Liga and five King’s Cups.
