I love Dallas Cowboys fans, man. I really do. But the latest debate around the fanbase and content creators was this close to making me lose my mind. Fortunately, Micah Parsons just put it to an end by typing a 52-word tweet on Thursday.

You see, if you’re unfamiliar with the discussion, since the Cowboys lost to the Buffalo Bills due to their inability to stop the run, a legion of people have been pounding the table for Parsons to be moved from his edge rusher position.

Some argue he should be playing off-the-ball linebacker. That in turn is supposed to enable the Cowboys to stop the run and allow Micah to be more unpredictable by doing a little bit of everything.

There’s one huge flaw to that line of thinking though, and Parsons made sure to point out in a recent tweet, going as far as calling people “nuts.” You can check out his post below:

The key part of Parsons’ message is ” if people watch film they take shots and pass more when I’m off ball or out the game.” That shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Listen, I understand the Cowboys are shorthanded at linebacker but why would you remove your very best player from the most valuable defensive position in football?

It makes no sense! Parsons leads the NFL in total pressures (89), is second in pass rush win rate per PFF, all while being double-teamed at the highest rate in the entire league according to ESPN‘s leaderboards.

I really do understand the logic behind the idea of moving him around. But I don’t think those in team “move Micah to LB” fully understand the trade-off of not having Parsons at the line of scrimmage every down. Not a handful of downs but every down. Just the threat of him at roaming the line of scrimmage deters teams from passing the ball.

Sure, the run defense is a concern and Dan Quinn should be under the microscope as he finds a solution. But don’t forget about why teams want to run at the Cowboys, too.

Mike McCarthy warned us back in August: “When they look at our defense, they want to challenge our run defense. They don’t want to play all day against our pass rush.”

Remove Parsons from the spot he plays his best football and watch the pass defense take a major hit. And don’t get me started with the fact that we haven’t even seen Micah play off-the-ball linebacker since his rookie year. Offensive coordinators have their way with second-level defenders week in and week out with all sorts of eye candy and misdirection. It’s not worth it dedicating Parsons to that position.

I’m glad Parsons is in the same boat as I am as it means we probably won’t see the Cowboys make such a mistake. Let him rush quarterbacks and be great.
