Kansas City Chiefs fans were disappointed when the NFL announced that the Week 9 game against the Miami Dolphins would be played in Frankfurt, Germany.

Many were hoping to see Tyreek Hill’s homecoming at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Little did they know that they’d still be getting his homecoming, just two months later in a win-or-go-home playoff game.

What exactly will Hill’s reception be like at Arrowhead Stadium? Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has an idea of how it’ll likely go down this time around and in the future.

“I’m sure it’ll be a mixture of cheers and boos,” Mahomes said on 610 Sports Radio. “I mean, Tyreek (Hill) did a lot for this organization, man. He really did. I know he’s in Miami now and he might get a couple of boos because we’re playing them in the playoffs and everything like that. But one day, he’s going to be in that ring of honor. He’ll be coming back to Arrowhead at some point, and he’ll get that ovation he deserves. This week, I think it’ll be a tad more hostile, just with it being a playoff game and he’s on the opposite team.”

One day Hill will get the reception he deserves as a vital part of the team that delivered Chiefs Kingdom a Lombardi Trophy after a 50-year drought. But hostility is to be expected when Hill is seen as an obstacle standing between Kansas City and their next Super Bowl championship.

“We’re competitors,” Mahomes told reporters on Tuesday. “You’ve seen me with guys like (Raiders DE) Maxx Crosby, you see me – I have that fire, that competitive fire on the football field. (Tyreek Hill is) the same way, that’s what makes him so great. We’re still friends in the offseason and everything like that, but when you play on the field you’re trying to compete to win. That’s just how it is. I’m excited for the opportunity for our defense, I’m excited for the opportunity for our team to go against a great football team.”

As for that friendship between Hill and Mahomes, let’s just say they won’t be booting up some Call of Duty for old-time’s sake ahead of wild-card weekend.

“I don’t know if we’ll be talking this week, but I talk to him every once in a while,” Mahomes said. “He’ll be excited to come to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. This week I won’t talk to him as much, I’ll say.”
