Taylor Swift and 397 people were invited to be admitted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2023.

On June 28, the Institute announced a list of 18 groups, including Actors, Authors, Music, Directors, Cinematography and many other categories.

According to CNN, Taylor was invited to the Music group, after making her mark at Oscar 2023. The work she directed – All Too Well: The Short Film – is considered for nomination in the Best Short Film category. The song Carolina – the singer composed for the film Where the Crawdads Sing – was shortlisted for the Best Original Song category. The artist has not yet responded to the invitation.

With the Music group, some of the artists present are Abel Makkonen Tesfaye (singer The Weeknd) – composer of Avatar: Way of Water, Fifty Shades of Gray, Rafiq Bhatia – composer of Everything Everywhere All at Once, Paper Towns, Alain Boublil – composition for the musical Les Misérables.

Director duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (film Everything Everywhere All at Once) were invited to two groups of Director – Author. Nobel Prize winning writer – Kazuo Ishiguro – is in the Author group, while Guan Ke Huy – Best Supporting Actor Oscar 2023, Austin Butler, Bill Hader, Paul Mescal, Nicholas Hoult are in the Actors group.

Eight individuals – Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert, Colm Bairéad, Edward Berger, Antonio Campos, Lukas Dhont, Ana Katz and Santiago Miter – were invited to join more than one group.

Of the 398 new people, 40% are female, 34% are ethnic minorities or disadvantaged groups, and 52% are foreigners. The list has 22 Oscar winners and 76 nominees. If all invitees agree to participate, the Academy will have 9,375 members.

The Academy’s criteria is to select individuals “outstanding with many contributions to cinema”. Academy CEO – Bill Kramer – said the artists on the list have a positive influence on world art and are internationally recognized for their talents. The Institute selects members based on professional qualifications, in addition to paying attention to ethnic representation, inclusion and maintaining fairness.

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was founded in 1927 to honor achievements in cinema. Each year, members select winners through a complex process. The 96th Academy Awards take place in March next year.

Taylor Swift is an American singer-songwriter who rose to fame with country music in 2006. After 10 albums, Swift received 12 Grammy Awards and 29 Billboard Awards. Taylor Swift became the most listened to artist on Spotify with more than 35 billion streams. In 2019, the AMA organizers honored her as “Artist of the 2010s”. The singer was awarded “Global Icon” at the 2021 Brit Awards.

Her Eras Tour is “sweeping” the United States, according to The Guardian, with more than a million fans participating in 16 shows. Bloomberg estimates the artist earns more than $10 million per night.
