The documentary “Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me” reveals many hidden corners and the process of the American singer overcoming the crisis.

The film directed by Alek Keshishian focuses on exploring Selena Gomez’s mental health issues. The content revolves around the period when the singer was around the age of 23 to 25. The work begins with Gomez standing in the backstage of the Revival tour and admitting to feeling too pressured by fame.

After a psychological crisis, Gomez decided to cancel the remaining concerts of the tour. The singer went to a mental health treatment center. The film continues in 2019, when Gomez said she gradually no longer felt the joy in artistic work like when she was a child. She also found life painful and lonely when she was famous.

The singer said: “I think my past and mistakes made me fall into depression. Since I was a kid, I worked and the only thing I wanted was a family. I just wanted, like, a mother. Sometimes, I want to give up so I can live happily like other normal people.”

The film reviews the events that greatly affected Selena Gomez’s physical and psychological condition. One of Gomez’s sad stories mentioned is her love affair with singer Justin Bieber. “I felt haunted by a relationship that ended but no one wanted to let go. But then I got over it. And I’m no longer afraid,” Gomez said.

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber started dating in 2010. The love story attracted the attention of a large public. However, the pair gradually fell apart and broke up and reunited many times until their relationship ended in mid-2018. Bieber then got engaged to model Hailey Baldwin just two months later.

Selena said about the breakup: “I felt like I was going through the worst pain of my life. But I think it was necessary and the best thing that ever happened to me.” In 2021, Selena composed Lose You to Love Me about those thoughts. She explained the lyrics: “It’s about me learning to choose myself, choosing to live for myself and hoping people can find peace in that. The song is about knowing you’ve lost a part of yourself.” to rediscover myself again.”

The film also explains that one reason Gomez has many mental health problems is illness. The singer was diagnosed with lupus erythematosus in 2015. The disease affected her severely. Gomez rarely appears in public because of excruciating pain, leading to anxiety and depression.

Gomez said her illness became serious during the quarantine period in early 2020. Many days, she woke up in so much pain that she cried. Gomez was even more depressed when many plans were canceled or delayed because of her health situation.

Selena Gomez was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2018. She heard mysterious voices inside. They became increasingly loud and clear and drowned out the sounds of the real world. Using medication makes it difficult for the singer to get pregnant. Selena said it was very painful to receive that information: “Having children is my very big dream. I want to have children. I will do everything to have children.”

Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me dedicates a segment to the relationship between the singer and her biological mother Mandy Teefey. She and her husband only learned that their daughter had to go for mental treatment in 2016 through the press. The relationship between the two deteriorated after Gomez was discovered to have bipolar disorder. She often gets angry and disobeys her parents. Mandy said Gomez cut off contact with her a long time ago. In a 2019 interview, the singer said he sometimes felt tormented because he did not treat his mother well. She revealed that she was always grateful in her heart because her grandmother did not abandon her.
