Christie Sides and Caitlin Clark had a tense exchange during practice over the playing of loud music

Caitlin Clark-Christie Sides relationship summed up as Fever star recalls tense practice moment

Indiana Fever star Lexie Hull has recalled a tense exchange between Caitlin Clark and Christie Sides over loud music being played during practice.

The Indianapolis outfit parted company with the head coach after two seasons which included a first playoff appearance since 2016. That came in her final campaign at the helm as No. 1 overall draft pick Clark earned the Rookie of the Year honors after a record-breaking maiden term.

Their postseason appearance ran aground in the first round following defeat against the Connecticut Sun, with Fever chiefs eventually relieving Sides of her duties this week. Now, Indiana ace Hull has recalled one interaction between Clark and the departed head coach which demonstrated the dynamic between the pair.

Remembering her teammate calling out Sides as loud music played during practice, she said on “The Ringer WNBA Show”: “There was one practice, Christie turns on loud music. Because… we knew the [opposing] arena was going to be loud. And so she turns on this loud, loud music, and Caitlin screams, ‘Can someone turn it off? It’s giving me a migraine.’

“And everyone’s like ‘Uh, what?’ And Christie reacted and said ‘What did you say?’ And [Caitlin] repeated it. And all of us were all dying because if someone, if I would have said that, if anyone on our team would have said that, and then been asked ‘What did you say?’ And you repeat it, no one else is repeating it. But she did.”

The rookie’s teammates could not help but see the funny side of the situation to, with Hull revealing that the Fever players enjoyed a collective chuckle at the situation. She laughed: “It was the funniest thing. We were all on the floor, rolling on the ground laughing.”

Clark is yet to address the firing of Sides during the offseason, with rumors now abounding in relation to who her successor may be in Indianapolis. Former Connecticut Sun coach Stephanie White has been heavily linked with the vacancy as the Fever players prepare for a new era at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Meanwhile, Fever president of basketball operations Kelly Krauskopf confirmed the reasoning behind the decision to part company with Sides following two campaigns. A statement read: We are incredibly thankful to Coach Sides for embracing the challenge of leading us through an integral transition period over the last two seasons, while also positioning us well for future growth.

“While decisions like these are never easy, it is also imperative that we remain bold and assertive in the pursuit of our goals, which includes maximizing our talent and bringing another WNBA championship back to Indiana. Coach Sides was an incredible representative of the Fever and our community, and we wish her nothing but success in the future.”
