PSG register interest in Man Utd star and it could help Erik ten Hag sign Manuel Ugarte

It could be an opportunity for Erik ten Hag.

PSG are considering making a move for Marcus Rashford this summer, which could open the door for a potential swap deal between the clubs with Manuel Ugarte heading the opposite direction.

Rashford has endured one of the most difficult seasons in his career at United last campaign, particularly considering his form the season prior.

The 26-year-old went from 22 Premier League goal involvements in 21/22 to just nine last season, a return that rather controversially saw him left out of England’s 33-man preliminary squad for Euro 2024.

One of the only consistently linked clubs to the forward has been PSG, with the Ligue 1 side often mentioned in the same sentence as Rashford regarding a potential transfer.

According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, PSG will once again turn to Rashford this summer as the club look to replace Kylian Mbappe who left the club for Real Madrid this summer.

This could potentially play into the hands of Erik ten Hag, as Fabrizio Romano confirmed United have made contact with PSG over the sale of Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

If United are willing to accept the potential of Rashford’s exit, they could be in a position to do a swap deal with PSG which could see Ugarte make the switch to Old Trafford.

However, the report from talkSPORT stresses that PSG would only step up interest in Rashford if they received encouragement from the player’s camp.

Rashford had been on the end of a significant amount of stick from United fans towards the end of last season, with one fan even confronting him during a warm-up, so a move away could be tempting.

However, Rashford has only ever spoken positively about his connection to United and even implied he hopes to be a one-club man.

Speaking to Goal in 2020, Rashford said: “As a kid I never looked beyond Man Utd. In my mind it wouldn’t sit right for me to be pulling on another shirt. I just want to do my best for the club while I’m here. Long term hopefully,”

“All the good things that have happened this year have come from Man Utd giving me an opportunity as a kid. I don’t just remember the last year or the last five years.”

Rashford explained just exactly how much United had done for him during his early development that had gone beyond football.

“I’m talking about when nobody in my family drove and I had to get to training and United had people to come and take me to the training ground and take me back home when I was six, seven, eight,” Rashford revealed.
