Before the infamous altercation of 2009, Chris Brown and Rihanna were inseparable.

So much so that, they were the ‘IT’ couple that the millennials looked up to. But that was before the fateful night that left everything blurry. Yes, the same fight that left Riri spitting blood and fans fuming in rage.

Just to jog your memory, Chris Brown had violently hit and assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna for which he was arrested and placed on probation for five years. He was also sentenced to six months community service.

Now, after years, the star has finally opened up in his documentary, ‘Chris Brown: Welcome To My Life’. He spoke about the night, his behaviour, and the details are brow-raising. 

According to Chris, it all began at a pre-Grammys party when Chris’ ex-GF turned up at the same party. This upset Rihanna and she burst into tears. Although he managed to calm her down initially, things got nasty after a few drinks. 

Even on the way home, the spat turned worse when Chris handed his phone to prove that there was nothing to be worried about. But as fate would have it, Rihanna found an unread message from her saying she’d be at the party. That was the blow.

Chris recalled, 

“She starts going off, she throws the phone, ‘I hate you!’, whatever, whatever, she starts hitting me, we’re in a little Lamborghini, you know she’s fighting me.”

He even gave out graphic details of the assault and the moment he gave in to the urge to hit the ‘Umbrella’ singer. 

“When I saw it I was in shock, I was like, ‘Fuck, why did I hit her like that?”
Divulging further, the songwriter even admitted to the moment he was enraged.  

In fact, everything that followed made it even worse. 

“I’m like, ‘Yo, we tripping, what the fuck, what are we doing?’ She tried to grab for my phone, and I’m not giving her my phone, to throw it out the window.So, she grabs my neck and I bite her arm. And I’m still trying to drive. It was a stupid, petty fight. I’m just trying to resolve the situation, I’m not trying to fight.

She takes the keys out of the car and fakes it like she throws them out of the window. I get out the car and I’m looking for the keys and somebody yelled and she yells out her door, ‘help, he’s trying to kill me.”

Describing the aftermath of it all, Chris confessed that it was bad but it was mutual.

“She hated me. After that, I tried everything. She didn’t care, she just didn’t trust me after that.”

“From there, it just went downhill because it would be fights, it would be verbal fights, physical fights as well. Mutual sides, it is the first time I get to say anything.

I still love Rihanna, but I’m just going to be honest – we would fight each other, she would hit me, I would hit her, but it never was OK. It was always a point to where we talk about it like, “What the fuck are we doing?”

And he concluded saying, 

“Shit, I’m not ever trying to put my hands on any female. I felt like a fucking monster.”

“That’s not me. I hate it. That’s going to haunt me forever.”
