The Yankees, currently focused on bullpen pieces, have talked to Hector Neris, Phil Maton, Ryan Brasier and Wandy Peralta.

But they are alleged to be making low offers, perhaps due to the calendar or a supply-demand perception. As YES’ Jack Curry said, they could instead bring back Keynan Middleton instead. He’d cost less.

Though the Yankees made an offer for Blake Snell, part of their hesitation in extending what Snell’s camp considers a “market” bid seems to be the rough first year of Carlos Rodon, who got $162 million.

Snell’s camp points out he’s differentiated by winning two Cy Youngs, having no past Tommy John, more recent innings (486 ²/₃ since 2020) and even better platform year.

Rodon has been in Tampa for two weeks already, and manager Aaron Boone told us on The New York Post podcast “The Show,” that he’s determined to do whatever he can to have a big second year.

The Padres and Yankees were among teams pursuing Jung Hoo Lee before he went to the Giants for $11M.

The Angels, Diamondbacks and Mets also are considering hitters. The Giants tried for Rhys Hoskins before he went to the Brewers, so perhaps they are, as well. The Rangers may, too, especially if their local TV issue gets resolved.

J.D. Martinez is the other DH at the top of that market. Justin Turner is still a good one, and Tommy Pham and Eddie Rosario provide solid options.
