It sounds like New York may not be able to bring back a popular veteran

The New York Yankees clearly are still looking to add to the roster this offseason. New York has made a plethora of moves already but has been linked to multiple players.

One player who has popped up as an option on multiple occasions is former Yankees utility man Gio Urshela. He spent the 2023 campaign with Los Angeles but only was able to appear in 62 games due to injuries.

It’s unclear where he will land, but New York has been linked to him. While this is the case, MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch threw some cold water on the idea of a reunion.

“Heard (New York Mets) and NYY have both shown interest, but Angels and (Miami Marlins) have made better offers at this time,” Hoch said.

Urshela could make a lot of sense for the Yankees. He arguably played the best baseball of his career in New York. From 2019 to 2021 Urshela clubbed 41 home runs, drove in 153 runs, and slashed .292/.335/.480 in 291 games played.

New York traded him to the Minnesota Twins ahead of the 2022 campaign and he shined. Urshela was impressive with Los Angeles in 2023 in a small sample size but dealt with injuries.

If he is healthy, he could be a solid pickup for the Yankees. He could help the club out all across the diamond and add some more offense. A move may be unlikely at this point, but a signing could make sense.
