Adapted from Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series of the same name, The Witcher series on Netflix has been a smashing hit.

With Henry Cavill headlining the series as the titular hero, the enchanting fictional world gained a wide fanbase and even has a video game set in that universe. However, Netflix announced that Henry Cavill will not be returning as Geralt of Rivia in the next season of the show, disappointing fans worldwide.

Fans Started A Petition To Bring Henry Cavill Back

The creators of the show knew letting Henry Cavill go would be a mistake and would sadden fans. But they never anticipated such a response. Die-hard fans of The Witcher universe created a petition to urge Netflix to bring Cavill back and fire the writers of the show. The same petition has now received over 320k signatures to bring back the original White Wolf loved by everyone. The petition further states that Netflix is once again going against fans’ wishes to do what they desire.

“Let us show them in pure numbers (and thus lost money, because that’s all they really care about) that none of us Witcher fans will stand with them and will abandon the show (and potentially our subscriptions) after The Witcher season 3 is concluded. Netflix can only exist because all of us pay them monthly to produce content that is entertaining for us, unfortunately all public information points towards a production team making decisions that are completely opposite to the fans’ – our – interests.”

Even the writer of the books and creator of the universe believes Cavill was the right man for the job given his deep voice and magnetic personality. He is mysterious, strong, and an overall handsome man to emulate Geralt of Rivia perfectly. Sapkowski said,

“‘I was more than happy with Henry Cavill’s appearance as The Witcher, he’s a real professional. Just as Viggo Mortensen gave his face to Aragorn, so Henry gave his to Geralt and it shall be forever so.’”

Fans are correlating The Witcher’s fate to that of Game of Thrones finale season. Nobody wants to go through that again, to see their beloved show get a dissatisfying end. In the meanwhile, people are looking forward to watching the animated film The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep which will further a plot arc from season 1 of the show.

Why Did Henry Cavill Leave?

At the time, it was said that Cavill was exiting the show to play Superman in the DCU. However, with James Gunn rebooting the entire DC universe, Cavill did not end up playing Superman again. David Corenswet is set to play the iconic superhero because Gunn wants to explore a younger Superman’s story.

Currently, Liam Hemsworth, known for The Hunger Games, has signed up to play Geralt of Rivia in the upcoming season of The Witcher which is set to release in 2024 or 2025 depending on when the production schedule gets finished.
