The New York Yankees had four players in MLB Pipeline’s new Top 100 prospect rankings, which were released on Friday.
Three of the prospects were part of the Top 100 before the new rankings were released, with the new one being shortstop Roderick Arias.
Outfielder Jasson Domínguez is the highest-ranked Yankees prospect at No. 41, followed by outfielder Spencer Jones at No. 84, Arias at No. 85 and right-handed pitcher Chase Hampton at No. 92.
Before the re-rank, the Yankees’ Top 100 prospects included Jones (No. 73), Domínguez (No 74), outfielder Everson Pereira (No. 75) and Hampton (No. 95).
Domínguez made his MLB debut last season and batted .258 with four home runs and seven RBI, including hitting a home run in his first Major League at-bat off Houston’s Justin Verlander. But he suffered a torn UCL and had Tommy John surgery.
The Yankees hope that Domínguez will be able to re-join the team sometime this season.
Jones was the Yankees’ first-round pick in 2022 out of Vanderbilt. He’s quickly moved through the Yankees’ system and reached Double-A Somerset last season. Jones slashed .267/.336/.444/.780 with 16 home runs and 66 RBI. He could start with the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate in 2024.
Arias signed with the Yankees in 2022 out of the Dominican Republic and spent 2022 with the Yankees’ Dominican Summer League team. In 2023 he took a leap while playing with the Yankees’ Florida Complex League team, as he batted .267 with six home runs and 26 RBI in 27 games.
Hampton was the Yankees’ sixth-round pick in 2022 out of Longview, Texas, and Texas Tech University. He didn’t pitch in 2022, but last season he went 4-3 with a 3.63 ERA with 145 strikeouts in 106.2 innings. He ended last season with Somerset.
Rankings were created based on input from scouts, scouting directors and other talent evaluators. It also takes into account skill set, upside, proximity to the Majors and potential immediate impact to their teams.
The Top 100 includes players with 2024 rookie status, which includes players that debuted in 2023 that don’t have the service time (45 days on the active roster), at-bats (130) or innings pitched (50) to graduate.
