John Cena has established a stronghold in Hollywood, especially after finding success in his role as the titular character ‘Peacekeeper’.
He also propelled his stock for his role by being a part of the Fast & Furious franchise. And now it seems like he is headed towards adding another hit to his filmography with his upcoming movie, Argylle.
But what prompted him to be a part of this multi-starrer project featuring the likes of Henry Cavill and pop sensation Dua Lipa? The answer to this question lies in his recent appearance on a talk show. So let’s find out.
Cena reveals the motivation behind joining the Argylle family
As Cena revealed, speaking about the director of the film, Michael Vaughn, “I’m violating a restraining order; I’m supposed to stay 50 feet apart. I chased him down, and I really just wanted to be a part of his work. Kingsmen struck me so deeply; literally, the quote of “A gentleman is a modern-day knight and the suit is his armor”—he’s the reason you see me in my uniform. This is where I feel most comfortable, and it’s because of him.”
He further added, “So when I found out he was doing ‘Árgylle’ and I wanted to be a part, he actually tried to pitch me; he’s like, “We’ll have this thing…it’s kinda this, but it might become,” and I was like, ‘Stop, I’m in, let’s go to work’. So I’m really so happy to be a part of the ‘Argylle family, and man, do we have a great movie to show. “
The plot of the film is actually going to be released as a novel by first-time author Elly Conway. And it has already made about $200 million as Apple TV+ acquired the rights to the film back in August 2021. The film is poised to be an homage to 1980s action thrillers like “Die Hard” and “Lethal Weapon.” With a star-studded cast, a seasoned director, and an intriguing storyline, “Árgylle” sure is going to be highly anticipated by fans worldwide. Especially the fans of John Cena, who cannot wait to get a glimpse of the superstar, whether it be inside or outside the ring.
