There are many reasons as to why Argylle did not live up to the hype. Despite all the buzz about its innovative concepts, the film failed to deliver due to its heavy reliance on unresolved plotlines.

The whole mystery surrounding “who is the real Agent Argylle” failed to grip the audiences, with online speculation only appealing to a select few. However, the movie was not the only trigger for trolls to come out from under their bridges.

It was also Henry Cavill‘s quirky hairstyle that ignited a firestorm of criticism and trolling for Matthew Vaughn’s franchise. Even so, the English actor still sees value in Vaughn’s decision for a particular reason.

Henry Cavill backed Matthew Vaughn’s choice of peculiar hairstyle

Matthew Vaughn and Henry Cavill sat for an interview with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast last month. When Horowitz asked about Cavill’s unusual hairstyle in Argylle, the filmmaker immediately admitted to taking the liberty of his “poetic license” to have a little fun with a good-looking face like Henry Cavill’s. The Witcher actor then chimed in, defending the filmmaker for allowing him “to be characters,” something which Cavill believed most people do not.

He also shared that Vaughn was the first person who made Cavill try a mustache. This was in the 2007 fantasy adventure film, Stardust, where the 40-year-old played the character of Humphrey. The podcast also discussed this first collaboration between Cavill and Vaughn. When Horowitz asked what made Vaughn believe that Cavill was perfect for his movie back in 2007, the filmmaker replied with “charm“. However, Stardust was not the only movie where Cavill flaunted his mustache.

Back in 2018, Henry Cavill brought back his mustache look for Mission: Impossible- Fallout, which led to a whole other controversy as he refused to shave it off for reshoots for another movie he was doing around the same time.

Why Henry Cavill could not shave off his mustache?

Cavill’s mustache for Mission: Impossible – Fallout had to undergo digital removal during post-production on Justice League. This was because he could not shave it off while still filming Mission, despite also needing to don the red and blue spandex again for the Joss Whedon-led Justice League reshoots. After many fans queried why Cavill could not simply wear a faux mustache in the Mission: Impossible film, Christopher McQuarrie, the director, shared the true reason on X, formerly Twitter.

The filmmaker revealed that the stunts Cavill performed in the film would cause a fake mustache to either fall off or shift. As a result, he could not shave it off. However, this choice prompted a donation from Paramount Pictures as a gesture of gratitude for Cavill’s commitment. It seems like Cavill’s changes in hairstyles and mustaches never fails to create some drama.
