Hector Neris became the latest reliever to come off the free agent market, with the right-hander agreeing to a one-year, $9 million deal with the Cubs on Saturday, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed.

Both the Mets and Yankees spoke with the 34-year-old, who is coming off an outstanding season with the Astros, but neither was close to signing him.

The deal also includes an option for $9 million for 2025 that converts to a player option if Neris appears in 60 games this season.

Neris joins a group of veteran relievers that’s signed deals relatively late in free agency, with the top of the class, Josh Hader, going to the Astros, ex-Met and Yankee David Robertson to the Rangers, Robert Stephenson to the Angels and former Yankee Aroldis Chapman to the Pirates.

The Yankees remain in play for Phil Maton and Ryan Brasier, according to Heyman, and they would consider a reunion with left-hander Wandy Peralta and right-hander Keynan Middleton.

According to sources, Peralta is also a possibility for the Mets.

Peralta, 32, has pitched well in The Bronx since his arrival in a trade from the Giants in 2021.

The 30-year-old Middleton saw his performance improve after a midseason trade to the Yankees from the White Sox last year.

Both will likely cost less than the $9-12 million contained in most of the one-year deals that have been handed out recently, as well as the five-year, $95 million contract that brought Hader to Houston following his bounce-back season with the Padres.

The Yankees, in particular, have excelled at getting the most out of relievers that haven’t had much success elsewhere.

In addition to Peralta, Ian Hamilton improved under pitching coach Matt Blake’s tutelage, as has closer Clay Holmes.

They also added 28-year-old lefty Victor Gonzalez and minor league infielder Jorvit Vargas, from the Dodgers in exchange for infield prospect Trey Sweeney in December.

The Mets have made small moves, bringing in Michael Tonkin, Austin Adams and Jorge Lopez.
