Emilia Clarke had her own agenda, turning down a huge project and one that could have changed her career.

Celebs have their own personal reasons for turning down projects, it isn’t always about the money, or a business decision. Take Ryan Reynolds as an example. Prior to his fame, the actor was approached for Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Despite the show’s great run, the actor decided to reject the huge opportunity because he didn’t want to return to high school.

Given his past in high school and the bad memories that came with it, the actor wasn’t interested in revisiting this part of his life.

Had she accepted the offer, Clarke could have made millions thanks to the opportunity. Instead, she decided to turn it down, not wanting to be remembered for a specific role. Let’s take a look at how it all went down, and which other actors turned down a spot in the film as well.

Emilia Clarke Regretted Her Revealing Scenes On Game Of Thrones

Emilia Clarke took on significant roles during and after her time on Game of Thrones. However, there was a specific role the actress wasn’t interested in, despite the potential. The actress revealed with Elle that she regretted her ‘revealing’ scene on the show, given that she didn’t want to be exclusively remembered for it.

According to Clarke, after the revealing scene took place, it was all Hollywood and the fans could talk about.

“The last time that I was naked on camera on [Game of Thrones] was a long time ago, and yet it is the only question that I ever get asked because I am a woman.””And it’s annoying as hell and I’m sick and tired of it because I did it for the character — I didn’t do it so some guy could check out my t***, for God’s sake.”

With that criteria in mind, Clarke was going to take part in several of those types of scenes, had she accepted the role in Fifty Shades of Grey. However, the actress turned her back on the project, despite the fact that it would make $1.3 billion at the box office.

Emilia Clarke Turned Down Her Fifty Shades Of Grey Offer Because She Didn’t Want To Be Known For Revealing Scenes

Emilia Clarke admitted to being a huge fan of director, Sam Taylor-Johnson. However, that wasn’t enough for the actress and her potential role in the film. Ultimately, she didn’t want to be typecast in a certain role, and decided to give Hollywood the cold shoulder instead.

“I’d done nudity before and was concerned with being labeled for doing it again. Sam is a magician,” Clarke started. “I love her, and I thought her vision was beautiful.”

For Clarke, the ultimate factor was not being remembered for a specific role.

She said, “that coming up, I was like, ‘I can’t.’ I did a minimal amount, and I’m pigeonholed for life, so me saying yes to that, where the entire thing is about sensuality and sex and being naked and all of that stuff, I was just like.””No way am I going to voluntarily walk into that situation and then never be able to look someone in the eye and be like, “No, you can’t keep asking me this question.”‘

Although Clarke would have made a fortune in the role, it was quite the risky project to take on. In fact, she wasn’t the only A-list star to turn down a role in the film.

Ryan Gosling would also turn down Fifty Shades, despite the fact that the creators of the film built the main character around him.

THR revealed, “Ryan Gosling was the original prototype for the 27-year-old billionaire with a penchant for S&M, but he was not interested.”

Other significant names would also turn down the chance to star in the risky project. Among those names included Garrett Hedlund, Christian Cooke and even rumors of Robert Pattinson saying no to the project. In terms of the casting itself, Jamie Dornan was relieved at the start that Charlie Hunnam got the role instead.

However, once the actor dropped off, the role was Dornan’s, and he grew very nervous because of it.

But given the success to come from the film, we doubt he has many regrets.
