A lot of actors in the past have had to push their physical and psychological limits to portray the role of a character perfectly.
Rosamund Pike who appeared alongside Ben Affleck in the psychological thriller movie, Gone Girl back in 2014 also went through a similar scenario when she had to portray the role of Amy Dunne.

The director of Gone Girl, David Fincher has had quite a reputation for doing a number of takes until he gets that one perfect scene that is already in his head.
Although it might sound stressful or a high-pressure situation, the stars who have worked with the director in the past have said Fincher really has no problem with actors taking their time to do that one perfect take.
In one of the scenes of the movie, Ben Affleck‘s character, Nick Dunne, gets physically violent with his wife portrayed by Rosamund Pike. Pike once revealed in an interview with Variety that she almost ended up having a concussion while filming that scene. She said,
“I think probably around take 18 of getting my head bashed against the wall, I literally saw stars.”

The scene actually got so intense that the first assistant director, Courtenay Miles eventually had to intervene and stop the filming for a while.
Rosamund Pike talks about how she had to train for her physique on Gone Girl
Rosamund Pike had to make a lot of changes to her diet and training regime to effectively portray the role of Amy Dunne to perfection on Gone Girl. According to Variety,
“Because of the filming schedule, she had to gain and lose 13 pounds three times to play the character at different points in her life. “I was eating crap, eating well, eating crap, eating well,” she says. “Bulking up and leaning out.”

Even Ben Affleck had to make certain changes to his physique while filming for Gone Girl but those were not as intense as Pike’s. Once in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pike talked about filming the shower scene from the movie and complimented Affleck’s physical transformation. She said,
“Ben was becoming Batman before my eyes — by the time we were in the shower, I was with Batman!”
Gone Girl went on to become a massive success at the box office as the movie managed to gross a total of almost $369 million against a budget of $61 million. The movie also largely received positive reviews from fans and critics.
