While Game 1 between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun ultimately ended in a blowout in favor of the home team, there was no shortage of contentious moments throughout the contest.

At one point in the game, Caitlin Clark got poked in the eye by DiJonai Carrington, which led the Fever star to fall to the floor in pain. No foul was called on Carrington despite replays showing that she did catch Clark in the eye, be it inadvertent or otherwise.

For her part, Clark ended up on the opposite end of another controversial incident after she was called for a foul on a shove on Carrington.

In the slow-mo video above, Clark is seen battling Carrington for a rebound. Based on how the Sun guard/forward fell to the ground, it seemed like she was nudged by Clark from behind.

More than a few fans out there aren’t buying it, though. In their minds, it just makes no sense that Carrington’s eye poke was overlooked by the referees while this alleged shove by Clark was whistled for a foul.

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) and Connecticut Sun guard DiJonai Carrington (21).“@CathyEngelbert So these are your professional referees-Player gouges another players eye-No Call-then she flops, call fouled on player who now has a black eye-This is your league-MAKE IT MAKE SENSE-” demanded a viewer.

“@WNBA You better get this figured out soon. If people wanted to watch diving, they would,” a comment said.

“anything but rise to Caitlins level of play,” read another.

“And yet she can poke CC eye out without any repercussions,” commented a user.

There are always two sides to a story, though, especially for such a polarizing moment such as this one.

There were also a fair amount of viewers who believe that Clark was at fault here.

“Literally pushed while she’s in the air u can see the ankle roll. we stan @DijonaiVictoria over here,” argued a fan.

“Dear Chad, Explain to me how this shove to the back while DC is in mid air causing her to hit the court is a flop? In the NBA, they call this a flagrant & it should have been here too,” wrote a supporter.

“But cc can push someone and yall say it’s a flop while some one is in the air……. No wonder her eye black,” a comment read.

“CC gives her a push at the end flop or not lol,” pointed out another.

This incident clearly has the fans divided, and it only adds another layer of controversy to an already compelling matchup.

Whatever the case might be, it’s the Sun who are up after demolishing the Fever, 93-69, in Game 1. Indiana must now win Game 2 on Wednesday at the Mohegan Sun Arena to keep their season alive.
