Indiana Fever Caitlin Clark was robbed of a unanimous win in the WNBA Rookie of the Year race because of one vote that went to her rival, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.
Clark received 66 out of possible 67 votes.
The WNBA voting for their season awards is not made public unlike in the NBA.
With fans speculating who voted for Reese, several WNBA reporters made their votes public.
Hall of Famer and WNBA broadcaster Sheryl Swoopes, who received backlash for her earlier criticisms of Clark, was the latest to clear her name over speculations of her role in the WNBA ROY voting controversy.

Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark is Athlon Sports magazine’s cover girl.
“First of all, congratulations to Caitlin –– very well deserved,” Swoopes said on “Levels To This” podcast which she hosts with Terrika Foster-Brasby. “She had a hell of a rookie year doing things that just haven’t been done by a rookie before. But I hate to disappoint the people…You all cannot blame this one on me. I don’t get a vote. I’ve never had a vote in any of the awards.”
Swoopes initially had three WNBA rookies in her mind who had a shot at winning the award. But if she had a vote, she would’ve voted for Clark, too.
“I’ll also say this, if Rickea Jackson had gotten more playing time at the beginning of the season, Rickea Jackson would be in this conversation, but I digress,” Swoopes added. “I thought at one point, Angel Reese had my Rookie of the Year vote because she set the double-double record, and for a rookie, that is impressive…”
“After the Olympic break, Caitlin Clark got some rest… She came back and completely separated herself from all other rookies in the league. So congratulations to Caitlin. You all can’t get mad at me. I don’t get votes, so it wasn’t me.”
Before Swoopes, some of the reporters who publicly announced they voted for Clark for fear of backlash were CBS’ Terrika Foster-Brasby, iHeartRadio’s Khristina Williams and SiriusXM’s Nick Hamilton.
“I voted for CC. So don’t blow me up or call me a hater cause IT WASN’T TERRIKA,” wrote Foster-Brasby.
“I had Caitlin Clark on my ballot for Rookie of the Year,” wrote Williams.
“My voting ballot for #WNBA ROY was Caitlin Clark,” wrote Hamilton.
