‘Surreal’: Trevor Noah visits dad’s native country of Switzerland [photo]

Trevor Noah has visited Switzerland for the first time, the home country of his father Robert Noah.

The South African comedian shared his travels on his Instagram account which has over 7,5 million followers. The trip comes weeks after his maternal grandmother died and days after rumours suggesting he has split from his on/off girlfriend Minka Kelly.

WHO IS TREVOR NOAH’S DAD?

Whilst Trevor Noah keeps his private life fiercely guarded, he has repeatedly revealed that his existence is a result of an interracial relationship between his mother Patrica, and father Robert Noah.

Robert was a German-Swiss immigrant and lived in the country whilst he pursued various business ventures. According to Briefly, the pair met when their paths crossed in an apartment building they both stayed in Johannesburg.

Trevor was born in 1984 when such relationships were illegal and punishable by law under the country’s Immorality Act.

According to the publication, Robert would meet Trevor Noah in a park in Yeoville to publicly conceal their relations. Trevor and his dad separated for almost a decade during his teen years after the latter moved to Cape Town.

However, on the insistence of his mother, Trevor Noah would reconnect with his dad, who to his surprise, had been following his fledging career in comedy.

HANGING OUT WITH ROGER FEDERER

On Instagram, Trevor Noah revealed he had visited Switzerland as part of his Back to Abnormal world comedy tour

Sharing pics of him sightseeing in the country, he posted: “Switzerland what a surreal experience this was for me. I’ve always dreamed of visiting my father’s country but never dreamed I would do it like this. Thank you to every single person who came and filled out both arenas in Geneva and Zurich I’ll never forget the experience.

Trevor Noah also revealed that he had spent time with another “South African” with Swiss roots – retired tennis player Roger Federer. The Wimbledon winner’s mother was born in SA and as a result, he holds dual citizenship.

Trevor Noah added: “Thank you to my fellow half Swiss half South African @rogerfederer. You were the ultimate host, the best tour guide, and still the classiest man I’ve ever met.

“I know you miss me on the court but hopefully you’ll be able to play on in my honour now that my knee is out of commission”.

Trevor Noah and Roger Federer played in a charity match called the “Match of Africa” in 2020. Trevor and another tennis ace; Rafael Nadal lost the match to Federer and Microsoft guru Bill Gates.
